Saturday - Calais to Verdun

So, today we started the tour proper. Luckily at th hotel we bumped into our tour leader (Steve Freeman) and decided since we knew the form we would skip the meet and greet at the terminal and set out earlier and try and get an earlier channel tunnel crossing. We would meet the rest of the crowd later en route or at the hotel. Steve and I with our newly paired up Bluetooth Headset Comms managed to get the earlier 7.20 train over.

Glorious sunshine riding along their boring A20 peage toll motorway with s quick stop for coffee and Pain au Chocolate at the services we peeled off at Cambrai then had so e fun riding those vast open farmland roads that I always think are like roller coasters, before a spot of lunch at Rethel.

Great ride up to the Pennsylvania US memorial before riding in to Verdun for our first stay at an ex first world war officers mess converted to Hotel - Les Jardins du Mess.

The evening meal was a very nice Salmon on a bed of Risotto saffron rice with a nice drop it white wine chosen by Steve as is usual. We finally made our introductions to the rest of the riders. Always good to meet new people.

Great days riding. Well on our way now. Tomorrow we head to Biele in Switzerland via the Vosges Mountains
